IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) Issues EC-012 Evaluation Criteria for Composite Steel Sheet and Noncombustible Sheathing Panels

IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) is pleased to announce that Evaluation Criteria (EC) -012, Composite Steel Sheet and Noncombustible Sheathing Panels dated May 2013, was approved by the Evaluation Committee and is posted on our website: www.Uniform-ES.org

UES criteria are developed through a public comment process and ultimately dispositioned in a public meeting by the Evaluation Committee. Products recognized by IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service have successfully undergone evaluation based on IAPMO UES criteria and, or, other applicable requirements within the Uniform Family of Codes and, or, the International Family of Codes, or codes published by other entities.

“UES staff is extremely pleased to have the support of industry experts in the development of our criteria,” said Brian Gerber, PE, SE UES Technical Director. “We appreciate the hard work provided by the industry in developing criteria.  Where would we be without the dedicated input provided, the different points of view and expertise?  Such help is critical in development of documents to help the code industry and ultimately the public. The preparation process and resulting criteria belong to all participants, not just UES.”

The UES certification program is built upon IAPMO’s more than 70 years of experience in evaluating products for code compliance. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), IAPMO UES operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, “General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems.”

UES Director Richard Beck, PE, CBO, MCP, explains a little about the UES Philosophy on UES criteria: “UES endeavors to honor SEAOC’s request that existing criteria not be duplicated; however our responsibilities to the public and code officials are paramount. EC-012 fills a gap, providing transparency by defining code requirements, yielding a level playing field for manufacturers of unique sheathing panels seeking recognition in an evaluation report. UES Criteria are available without charge on our website, at any time to anyone, including the stakeholders such as architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and of course code officials.”

Uniform Evaluation Services offers a full range of recognition opportunities, including recognition for the applicable national model codes, as well as Florida, California and various other state codes, and certain international codes. The UES program lowers the cost and increases the value to code officials of these reports by combining all of these recognitions in one concise report prepared by an internationally recognized product certification body.

ABOUT IAPMO UNIFORM ES

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) coordinates the development and adaptation of plumbing, mechanical, swimming pool and solar energy codes to meet the specific needs of individual jurisdictions both in the United States and abroad. IAPMO Uniform ES (UES) is one of the two prominent evaluation service providers (as noted by SEAOC, see Uniform-ES.org for details). IAPMO UES Evaluation Reports provide evidence that products and systems satisfy code requirements within the scope and conditions of use as noted in each report.
