IAPMO’s Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) is pleased to announce that Michigan -based Helix Steel / Polytorx, LLC was granted UES Evaluation Report ER-279 on Helix 5-25 Micro-Rebar. ER-279 recognizes Helix 5-25 Micro-Rebar under the 2009 International Building Code® (IBC), and the 2009 International Residential Code® (IRC). ER-279 documents the substantiating data provided as evidence that Helix 5-25 Micro-Rebar satisfies applicable code requirements. This allows for the specification of Helix 5-25 Micro-Rebar by architects, contractors, specifiers and designers, and approval of installations by code officials. It also provides code officials with a concise summary of the product’s attributes and documentation of code compliance.
Products recognized under UES have successfully undergone evaluation based on applicable requirements within the International Family of Codes, as well as codes published by other entities. UES staff thoroughly examined Helix 5-25 Micro-Rebar product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods and other factors to ensure the product was code compliant.
“Working with UES staff was a breath of fresh air,” said Luke Pinkerton, president CTO of Helix Steel / Polytorx, LLC. “Of course, getting recognition for a new and innovative product is a large undertaking. Brian Gerber and Richard Beck have a lot of experience making evaluation reports work for everyone. Richard, Brian, Rafael Donado and others worked with us every step of the way, answering our questions, keeping us abreast of the report progression from beginning to publishing. We have no doubt that UES produced our report as quickly as possible. We highly recommend them.”
The UES program is built upon IAPMO’s more than 70 years of experience in evaluating products for code compliance. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the program operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, “General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems.”
UES Technical Director Brian Gerber, PE, SE, explained why Uniform Evaluation Reports are so valuable: “Helix Steel / Polytorx, LLC can now reference its ER-279 on Helix 5-25 Micro-Rebar to ensure that code officials quickly have the information, from a trusted third-party source, necessary for their quick decision on approval. We combine our experienced staff with the technical expertise of highly qualified professional engineering firms to yield an unparalleled team. UES strives to provide stellar customer service.”
IAPMO’s UES offers a full range of recognition opportunities, including recognition for the applicable national model codes, as well as Florida, California and various other state codes. The UES program increases the value to code officials of these reports by combining all of these recognitions in one concise report prepared by an internationally recognized product certification body.
