Performance Requirements for Positive Pressure Reduction Devices for Sanitary Drainage Systems
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has recognized ASSE Standard 1030-2013, Performance Requirements for Positive Pressure Reduction Devices for Sanitary Drainage Systems, as an American National Standard. ASSE 1030-2013, a revision of ASSE 1030-2009, was approved by the ASSE International Board of Directors in May 2013.
“The 2013 revision of ASSE 1030 was drafted with the product testing laboratories in mind,” said Working Group Chairman Steven R. Cole, senior design engineer for IPS Corporation. “Primarily, we clarified the standard so that the testing procedures are easier and clearer to follow, which will ultimately lead to a smoother process for listing products.”
ASSE 1030 provides performance and testing requirements for positive air pressure reduction devices specifically designed for use in building drainage waste and vent (DWV) systems to protect water trap seals against unwanted positive pressure transients. These devices are intended to reduce the impact of short duration air pressure transients which arise in DWV networks through use. The device itself connects to the drainage network through an airtight seal to prevent the diversion of airflow from entering a variable volume reservoir. As a result, the reservoir becomes an integral part of the drainage network.
